OpenCode 2.2.0 — desktop plugins and a redesigned desktop app

OpenCode 2.2.0 lets users build, install and share desktop plugins (experimental) and ships a redesigned desktop app. It also adds per-model prompt cache TTLs and stops publishing the OpenCode GitHub Action.

OpenCode 2.2.0 opens the desktop app to plugins and refreshes its design.

What is it?

OpenCode 2.2.0 introduces experimental desktop plugins, which users can create, install and share, along with a broad redesign of the desktop app. The open-source coding agent also gets experimental image and decision generation APIs for plugins and the SDK.

How does it work?

New GUI plugin APIs in the SDK give plugins toasts, dialogs, notifications, tabs and composer controls. Plugins can also add, update and remove keyed session instructions at the next step without editing the system prompt, so the prompt cache stays valid. Prompt cache TTLs can now be set per provider or per model.

Why does it matter?

Teams that extend OpenCode can now add UI to the desktop app, not only to the terminal. The release has breaking changes: the @opencode/ai root now exports the Promise API, TUI plugins need OpenTUI 0.7, and workflows that use the OpenCode GitHub Action must remove it.

Who is it for?

developers using or extending OpenCode
