What is it?
Claude for Teachers is a new free product from Anthropic for verified K-12 educators in the United States. It gives teachers premium Claude access, Anthropic's Claude Code and Cowork agents, and a Learning Commons connector that pulls in academic standards for all 50 states plus trusted curricula such as OpenSciEd and Illustrative Mathematics.
How does it work?
Signed-up teachers get Claude access with a Learning Commons connector already turned on, so Claude can plan lessons against state standards without a teacher pasting them in. Nine K-12 platforms plug in through connectors — ASSISTments, Brisk Teaching, Canva Education, Coteach, Diffit, Eedi, MagicSchool, Snorkl, and TeachFX — so Claude can pull student data or push generated materials back into the tool teachers already use.
Why does it matter?
Anthropic is following Google and OpenAI into the classroom, but framing Claude for Teachers around teacher workload rather than student chatbots. Chalkbeat reports 61% of teachers used AI in 2025, up from 32% in 2024, and Anthropic is piloting the tool with Detroit Public Schools Community District to study effects on teacher well-being. The tool is FERPA-aligned and does not train on teacher or student data.

Frequently asked questions
- Who can sign up for Claude for Teachers?
- Claude for Teachers is limited to verified K-12 educators based in the United States. Anthropic says a separate offering for schools and districts is coming soon; the current free tier is a single-teacher signup that Anthropic verifies before granting access.
- How much does Claude for Teachers cost?
- Claude for Teachers is free. Teachers who sign up by June 30, 2027 get a full year of access at no cost. Anthropic has not published a price for what happens after that year, and has not announced pricing for the coming school and district tier.
- What is the Learning Commons connector?
- Learning Commons is a Claude connector that ships turned on in Claude for Teachers. It gives Claude access to academic standards for all 50 US states, the sub-competencies under each standard, and trusted open curricula including OpenSciEd and Illustrative Mathematics, so lesson plans can cite the exact standard they cover.
- Which classroom platforms integrate with Claude for Teachers at launch?
- Claude for Teachers launches with nine K-12 platform integrations: ASSISTments, Brisk Teaching, Canva Education, Coteach, Diffit, Eedi, MagicSchool, Snorkl, and TeachFX. Each is exposed as a Claude connector, so a teacher can, for example, pull student data from ASSISTments and push a generated lesson into MagicSchool without leaving Claude.
- How does Claude for Teachers handle student data?
- Anthropic says Claude for Teachers is aligned to FERPA and its K-12 Data Processing Addendum. Teacher conversations and any student data pulled through connectors are excluded from Claude model training. Anthropic is also piloting Claude for Teachers with Detroit Public Schools Community District as part of a study on teacher well-being.
