What is it?
Claude for the Legal Industry bundles 12 plugins shaped around legal roles (commercial counsel, employment counsel, litigation associate, AI governance counsel, law student, and more) and a slate of more than 20 MCP connectors that link Claude directly to legal-tech systems of record. It is built on top of Claude Cowork and ships with named launch customers including Freshfields, Quinn Emanuel, Holland & Knight, and Crosby Legal.
How does it work?
Each plugin exposes practice-shaped commands such as /review-contract for clause-by-clause analysis, /triage-nda for rapid NDA screening, /vendor-check for agreement status, and /respond for templated outputs, configurable to a firm's playbook. The MCP connectors carry case law, contracts, e-discovery, document management, and deal-room context between Claude and partner systems including Thomson Reuters (Westlaw, CoCounsel), DocuSign, Box, iManage, NetDocuments, Relativity, Everlaw, Harvey, and Free Law Project. Microsoft 365 integration carries the same context across Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Why does it matter?
It is the first frontier-lab move that competes head-on with vertical legal AI incumbents like Harvey (~$11B valuation) and Legora (~$5.6B valuation) by pairing horizontal plugin distribution with the labs' own model. Discounted access through Claude for Nonprofits and direct hooks into Free Law Project also push the rails out to public-interest law, not just BigLaw deal rooms.
Who is it for?
GCs, BigLaw partners, public-interest litigators, legal-ops leads piloting agentic workflows
