What is it?
A 40% government discount on Claude is the core of Anthropic's expanded agreement with the US General Services Administration, announced October 27, 2026. The discount covers Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government and the Claude API on every product surface, including direct purchases now and cloud-provider purchases in the coming months. For the first time it also reaches state, local, tribal and territorial governments.
How does it work?
Agencies buy at the OneGov discount through GSA's Multiple Award Schedule, with no minimum spend commitment and usage-based billing. Anthropic is also starting a dedicated implementation program for agencies in the coming weeks. On the security side, Claude for Government has been generally available at FedRAMP High since September 30, Claude is FedRAMP High on Amazon Bedrock and Google Cloud Vertex AI, and Claude Enterprise is in process for FedRAMP Moderate under FedRAMP 20x.
Why does it matter?
The deal opens discounted Claude to state and local buyers who were outside GSA's earlier offer, which its OneGov page lists at $1 per user for federal agencies only, expiring October 31, 2026. Anthropic estimates $1 billion in savings and says about 500 US government organizations already use Claude, with federal civilian usage up 20-fold in a year.
Who is it for?
US government IT buyers and the contractors who build for them
