ChatGPT Business Premium seats — $125 a month for 5x usage, no 5-hour cap

OpenAI is adding Premium seats to ChatGPT Business at $125 per user per month, or $100 when billed annually. A Premium seat gives 5x the usage of a $25 Standard seat and drops the five-hour usage limit.

What is it?

Premium seats are a new, higher-capacity seat type for ChatGPT Business, announced on August 10, 2026. Each one costs $125 per user per month, or $100 per user per month billed annually, against $25 and $20 for a Standard seat. OpenAI says the top request from Business customers was a seat with more capacity built in.

How does it work?

Five times the usage of a Standard seat is the headline change, and the five-hour usage limit goes away with it. Usage instead resets on a predictable weekly schedule. When a team runs dry, the workspace owner can top it up with shared credits, and admins mix, upgrade, reassign and monitor both seat types from a single billing view.

Why does it matter?

Most teams have two or three people who hit the ceiling while everyone else barely notices it — a marketer building a whole campaign from customer data, or a developer running Codex across a large codebase. Because both seat types live in one ChatGPT Business workspace, a company can pay the higher price for just those people instead of upgrading the entire team.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to move my whole team to Premium seats?
No. OpenAI lets Standard and Premium seats sit in the same ChatGPT Business workspace, so a company can buy Premium only for the few people who keep hitting limits. Workspace owners can upgrade or reassign a seat later as needs change, and billing, usage and spend limits stay on one page.
When can I actually get a Premium seat?
Premium seats for ChatGPT Business are not generally available yet. OpenAI opened a waitlist on August 10, 2026 and says some customers who sign up may be selected for early access before general availability. Workspace owners join with the email tied to the account that owns the workspace.
What is the $100 credit offer and who qualifies?
The first 10,000 eligible ChatGPT Business customers who join the Premium waitlist get $100 in workspace credits (2,500 credits) for every Premium seat they add, up to five seats or $500 total. The person signing up must be the workspace owner, and the promotion ends on August 20, 2026.
What happens if a Premium seat still runs out of usage?
A Premium seat resets on a predictable weekly schedule rather than the five-hour window Standard seats use. If a team burns through that anyway, the ChatGPT Business workspace owner can buy shared workspace credits that the whole team draws from, so one heavy week does not stop the work.
