## In short

Codex CLI 0.156.1 puts GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna in the model picker, one day after OpenAI launched them. The rate-limit notice now names GPT-6 Luna as the model to switch to when an account runs low.

## What it is

GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna are now choices in the Codex CLI model picker, added in release 0.156.1. This is a small follow-up to 0.156.0, which shipped the day before with the optional fullscreen /tui interface, and it exists mainly to wire the two new models into the terminal agent.

## How it works

Picking either model is a menu selection in the terminal rather than a config file edit, so an open session can move between tiers without restarting a workflow. The rate-limit notification changed alongside it: when an account is running low, Codex CLI now suggests GPT-6 Luna by name instead of only reporting that limits are close.

## Why it matters

OpenAI positioned Sol and Luna as its mid and low tiers at roughly half the price of GPT-5.6, which only helps terminal users once the agent can actually select them. Shipping that a day later means a long Codex session can drop onto a cheaper model the moment limits start to bite, rather than waiting for the next feature release.
