OpenAI shipped six pre-built Codex plugins aimed at knowledge workers, bundling 62 apps and 110 skills across investing, banking, sales, analytics, creative, and design — with corporate finance, private equity, marketing, consulting, and legal pencilled in next.

## What it is

OpenAI bundled six "role" plugins for its Codex agent: Data Analytics, Creative Production, Sales, Product Design, Public Equity Investing, and Investment Banking. Each plugin ships a curated set of apps, skills, instructions, and workflows so a non-engineer can pull Codex into a real job-to-be-done with no setup. Codex now reports 5M+ weekly active users, with non-developers about 20% of the base and growing roughly 3x faster than developers.

## How it works

Plugins are installed from the Codex app's plugin directory or the CLI /plugins command. Each plugin bundles three component types: skills (reusable task instructions and helper scripts), app integrations (Gmail, Slack, Drive, Sites, GitHub), and MCP servers that bring in tools and shared context. The Public Equity Investing plugin wires Codex into Moody's, Daloopa, Datasite, FactSet, LSEG, S&P, PitchBook, and Hebbia so the agent can review earnings, compare comps, and stress-test investment theses without the user gluing pipelines together. OpenAI says corporate finance, private equity, marketing strategy, strategy consulting, and legal are next, with an Ironclad-founder-led legal effort already underway.

## Why it matters

This is the first concrete sign OpenAI is verticalizing Codex into finance and consulting — the same surface Anthropic has been pushing into with Claude for Financial Services. For analysts, bankers, and sellers, it turns an LLM agent into something closer to a managed workflow product. For enterprise buyers, it sharpens the procurement question from 'pick a chat model' to 'pick a role-specific agent.'

## Who it's for

Equity analysts, investment bankers, sales teams, data analysts, designers evaluating agent platforms

## Try it

Open the Codex app → Plugins → install Public Equity Investing or Investment Banking
