OpenAI and Dell Bring Codex On-Prem — Codex Plugs Into Dell AI Data Platform and AI Factory at Dell Technologies World; 4M Weekly Developers Meet 5,000+ AI Factory Customers
OpenAI and Dell announce a partnership to deploy Codex agents inside enterprise data centers via the Dell AI Data Platform and Dell AI Factory, opening Codex to regulated buyers that cannot send data to public cloud.

Codex moves into the data center: OpenAI's coding agent now runs inside Dell's on-prem AI Factory stack.
Key specs
| Codex weekly developers | 4M+ |
|---|---|
| Dell aifactory customers | 5,000+ |
What is it?
A multi-year collaboration unveiled at Dell Technologies World 2026 that wires OpenAI Codex into Dell's AI Data Platform and AI Factory so enterprises can run the agent against on-prem code, data, and systems of record. It is OpenAI's first explicit hybrid-and-on-prem distribution play.
How does it work?
Codex connects to the Dell AI Data Platform, which stores and governs unstructured enterprise data, and to the Dell AI Factory, the reference architecture customers use to run AI workloads on Dell PowerEdge servers with NVIDIA GPUs. Codex, ChatGPT Enterprise, and API workflows interface with AI Factory to prep data, manage systems of record, run tests, and ship apps without leaving the customer's premises.
Why does it matter?
Banks, hospitals, defence contractors, and government buyers that cannot send code or data to public cloud get a sanctioned path to Codex. Dell says 5,000+ customers are already on the AI Factory; pairing that footprint with Codex's 4 million weekly developers is a serious enterprise distribution lever against Anthropic's AWS deal and Google's Vertex push.
Who is it for?
Enterprise platform teams, regulated industries, Dell shops
