e2e 0.18 — TesterArmy's AI testing framework tops GitHub trending

e2e is an Apache-2.0 TypeScript framework where an agent drives web or mobile apps toward plain-English goals and verified steps replay with no model calls. Version 0.18.0 makes MCP sessions headless and masks secrets everywhere.

Write the goal, not the selectors: e2e lets an agent click through your app, then caches what worked.

What is it?

e2e is an open-source end-to-end testing framework for web and mobile apps from TesterArmy. A test says what the user wants, such as 'upgrade the workspace to the Pro plan', an agent drives the app to do it, and normal locators and assertions check the result. Release 0.18.0 shipped on 6 October 2026 while the repo gained about 1,700 stars in a day on GitHub trending.

How does it work?

When a later assertion verifies an agent step, the framework records the agent's actions and replays them on the next run with no model calls, until the app changes. Web tests run through Playwright on Chromium, Firefox and WebKit; mobile tests run on iOS simulators and Android emulators. In 0.18.0, `e2e mcp` sessions start headless by default, TypeScript loads through a new oxc-based loader, and secrets are masked in traces, console output and MCP responses.

Why does it matter?

Selector-based UI tests break whenever a screen is redesigned, and fully AI-driven tests cost a model call on every run. The record-and-replay cache aims for the middle: agent flexibility when the app changes, deterministic cost-free runs when it does not. Models are bring-your-own, including local ones.
