What is it?

Twitch has added a "Training for Generative AI" switch that decides whether Amazon can use a channel's content to train its generative AI models. Streams, VODs, clips and chat are all in scope. The switch is on for everyone from the start, so a creator who does not want their work in Amazon's training data has to go and turn it off.

How does it work?

The toggle lives under Settings, Security and Privacy on the web and under Profile, Settings, Security and Privacy in the mobile app. Turning it off stops Twitch feeding that channel's recorded video, audio and chat into training runs for Amazon models that generate or synthesise text, audio, images and video. It does not touch the AI that already runs the service — AutoMod, captions, transcription, stream summaries and recommendations are separate and stay on.

Why does it matter?

For millions of Twitch creators this is the difference between their archive being training data and not, and the choice defaults to yes.
