What is it?

Amazon Bedrock now serves Grok 4.6, xAI's flagship model, across every AWS Region where Bedrock runs. Two inference profiles come with it: us.xai.grok-4.6 keeps traffic inside US geography, and global.xai.grok-4.6 can serve from any commercial Region for higher throughput. AWS points at coding, agent work and knowledge tasks as the target uses.

How does it work?

Calls go through Bedrock's Responses, Chat Completions and Converse APIs, so teams already on Bedrock do not rewrite their call sites. Cross-Region inference spreads requests when one Region is busy. The usual Bedrock plumbing applies too — model invocation logging, CloudWatch metrics and cost tracking in AWS Cost Explorer. The model keeps its 500K-token context window and four reasoning effort settings, from low to xhigh.

Why does it matter?

Regulated AWS shops that could not send prompts to a third-party endpoint can now reach xAI's flagship under their existing IAM, logging and billing setup. The US geo profile answers the data-residency question that blocks many of those teams outright. Billing through AWS also matters in practice: model spend lands in the same reports finance already reviews, instead of a separate vendor invoice.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Grok 4.6 cost on Amazon Bedrock?
Grok 4.6 on Amazon Bedrock costs $2 per 1 million input tokens and $6 per 1 million output tokens, the prices xAI published with the launch. Spend is billed through AWS, so Grok usage shows up alongside the rest of an account's costs in AWS Cost Explorer rather than on a separate xAI invoice.
How do I keep Grok 4.6 requests inside the United States?
Amazon Bedrock ships two inference profiles for Grok 4.6. The US geo profile, us.xai.grok-4.6, routes requests only within US geography for teams with data-residency requirements. The global profile, global.xai.grok-4.6, can serve from any commercial AWS Region where the model is available, which favours throughput over residency.
Which Bedrock APIs work with Grok 4.6?
Grok 4.6 supports the Responses, Chat Completions and Converse APIs on Amazon Bedrock, so existing Bedrock call sites work without a rewrite. The model also plugs into standard Bedrock controls, including model invocation logging, CloudWatch metrics and cost tracking, and it can run with cross-Region inference for extra capacity.
Does Grok 4.6 keep its full context window on Bedrock?
Yes. Grok 4.6 on Amazon Bedrock keeps the 500K-token context window and the four configurable reasoning effort levels — low, medium, high and xhigh — that xAI ships on its own API. xAI positions the model for long-running agents and for interactive and visual work that spans many steps.
