What is it?
The Anthropic Public Record is a new recurring survey series on U.S. attitudes toward AI. The first wave polled nearly 52,000 Americans across all 50 states, DC, and Puerto Rico in November and December 2025, weighted to U.S. Census benchmarks via YouGov.
How does it work?
YouGov ran a nationally representative online survey, with state samples ranging from 232 to 1,902 respondents. Anthropic published the topline numbers, methodology notes, and per-state breakdowns. Future waves will repeat in the U.S. and expand to other countries.
Why does it matter?
Most AI public-opinion work is one-off and small. A standing, named series with this sample size gives policy, press, and labs a shared dataset to argue over. The headline finding — only 15% trust AI companies to make decisions about AI — sets the tone for the policy fights ahead.
