What is it?
Devin Desktop is the rebranded Windsurf IDE from Cognition, the company behind the Devin autonomous coding agent. The editor, extensions, keybindings, settings, and pricing all carry over via OTA update — but Cognition has rebuilt the surface around managing multiple AI coding agents at once.
How does it work?
Open Devin Desktop and the first view is the Agent Command Center: a Kanban with every running agent — local, cloud, and third-party — sorted by status (in progress, blocked, ready for review). Devin Local replaces Cascade as the default local agent, rewritten from scratch in Rust with ~30% better token efficiency and native subagent support. Spaces let agents share context across PRs, sessions, and files. Agent Client Protocol (ACP) lets Claude Agent, Codex, OpenCode, and other ACP-compatible agents plug into the same UI alongside Devin.
Why does it matter?
Codifies the bet Cognition has been making since Devin shipped: coding tools are agent-management tools. The editor stays useful, but the IDE's center of gravity is the queue of in-flight agents you need to triage, not the file you're editing.
