Claude voice mode is a spoken conversation interface inside the Claude mobile, desktop, and web apps. From 23 July 2026, users pick between Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku instead of being locked to Haiku — the model Anthropic first shipped with because it kept latency low.

How does it work?

Voice mode inherits the model from the user's last text chat and defaults to its fastest variant, so a person mid-Opus conversation gets Opus in voice too. Paid users can swap models mid-call.
