What is it?
GitHub Copilot for Jira is now generally available. The Atlassian Marketplace app links a Jira ticket to a GitHub coding agent session, so progress streams into Jira and follow-up instructions in the Jira chat keep the agent working on the same pull request.
How does it work?
Inside a Jira issue, the integration shows the agent's live steps as it runs and posts the resulting pull request back to the ticket. After the agent finishes, a reply in the Jira chat is sent as a follow-up; the agent continues on the same PR instead of opening a new one. The app pulls extra context from Confluence pages via MCP and supports custom agents, custom fields, and space-level guidance.
Why does it matter?
Project managers and developers who live in Jira can now drive code changes without switching tabs, see the agent's progress, and steer it without losing the existing pull request. Cutting the back-and-forth between Jira and GitHub is the point of the launch.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I install GitHub Copilot for Jira?
- GitHub Copilot for Jira is installed from the Atlassian Marketplace. The GA release simplified onboarding by reducing the configuration steps needed to connect a GitHub organization and its repositories to the Jira app, so an admin can wire it up without leaving Jira.
- What changed at general availability?
- GitHub Copilot for Jira at GA adds three things that were not in the preview: agent progress now streams live inside the Jira ticket, follow-up instructions in the Jira chat continue the same pull request instead of starting a new one, and the connection setup is shorter.
- Can the agent read Confluence pages?
- Yes. GitHub Copilot for Jira pulls extra context from Confluence pages through MCP, so the coding agent can reference linked design docs and runbooks while working on a Jira ticket without you copying the text into the prompt.
- Does it support custom agents and fields?
- GitHub Copilot for Jira supports custom agents, custom fields, model selection from Jira, Jira ticket references in pull request titles, space-level custom guidance, and review-request notifications in Jira — all of which carried over from the preview.
