What is it?
Helix Digital Infrastructure is a new operating company seeded by KKR with more than $10 billion in committed capital. It plans to design, build, own, and run data centers, power generation and transmission, networking, and cooling — sold as long-term capacity to hyperscale cloud providers.
How does it work?
KKR's infrastructure arm anchored the equity, with additional commitments from a sovereign wealth fund and strategic partners. Adam Selipsky, who ran AWS from 2021 to 2024 and remained at KKR as a senior tech and AI advisor, leads the platform as CEO and chair. Rather than hyperscalers owning every site themselves, Helix offers turnkey capacity that they lock in through long-term contracts.
Why does it matter?
AI compute demand is outrunning the buildout cycle for power, permits, and grid interconnects. A dedicated $10B vehicle led by the operator who scaled AWS past $100B in revenue is one of the largest single bets that the bottleneck is shifting from chips to dirt, megawatts, and cooling water.
Who is it for?
ML platform leads, infra investors, and anyone tracking the AI capex super-cycle.
