What is it?
MoonAgents Card is a virtual Mastercard debit card aimed at AI agents and the humans they shop for. It links a self-custodial onchain wallet to a Mastercard payment credential so an agent can pay any online merchant in fiat while the user's funds stay in stablecoins. It is issued through Monavate's regulated card-issuing infrastructure and provisioned through MoonPay's developer CLI.
How does it work?
Users install the MoonPay CLI (`npm install -g @moonpay/cli`) and run `mp card issue` after KYC. The card is bound to a smart-contract authorization on the user's wallet rather than a pre-loaded balance, so funds stay self-custodial until the moment of purchase. When the agent attempts a transaction, Monavate executes onchain settlement and card authorization in real time; declined transactions return funds immediately, and the user can revoke approvals at any time.
Why does it matter?
Until now, agents that want to spend money have had two bad options: hand over a real card with broad authority, or build a parallel crypto rail that no merchant accepts. MoonAgents Card bridges the two — agents spend at any Mastercard-accepting site, but the user's wallet keeps custody and per-transaction control. It is the second major agent-payment rail to ship in a week, after Stripe's Link agent wallet on April 29, signaling that agent commerce infrastructure is now a competitive market.
