OpenAI Codex 26.527 — Computer Use Lands on Windows, Remote Continuation Arrives From ChatGPT iOS, Android, and Mac Codex
Codex's screen-driving agent expands from macOS to Windows. ChatGPT mobile and Mac Codex can now kick off and steer Windows work remotely while files, shell, and project context stay on the Windows host.

Codex's screen-driving agent reaches Windows desktops, and ChatGPT mobile can now steer those Windows runs remotely.
What is it?
Codex 26.527 is OpenAI's latest desktop app release. It adds Windows support for Computer Use — the feature that lets Codex visually drive desktop applications by taking screenshots, clicking buttons, typing, and reading what is on screen — and pairs it with Remote Control, which lets ChatGPT on iOS or Android, or another Mac running Codex, kick off and supervise a Codex run on the user's Windows machine.
How does it work?
On Windows, Computer Use runs on the active desktop only — Codex takes the foreground, sees the screen, and operates apps the user is watching. It cannot run a scoped task in the background while the user keeps working in the same Windows session, the way it can on macOS. Codex also refuses to automate terminal apps or itself, to keep its own security policies in place. Remote Control routes prompts from ChatGPT iOS, Android, or Mac Codex back to the Windows host that owns the project files, shell, app server, and local context. The same release adds a Profile section with usage and token activity, thread coordination across local projects and worktrees, and search across past Codex app threads by content and Git branch.
Why does it matter?
Computer Use shipped in April but was macOS-only. Bringing it to Windows opens screen-driving agentic workflows to the majority of developer desktops, including Windows-pinned enterprise users. Remote Control means a developer can start a long task at their desk and steer it from their phone or Mac without losing the local project context.
Who is it for?
Developers on Windows who want a coding agent that can actually drive their desktop apps, and anyone who wants to keep tabs on a Codex run from their phone.
Try it
