What is it?
A Chrome extension installed from the Codex app on macOS and Windows. Once paired, Codex can open its own dedicated tabs and drive the browser like a user — clicking, scrolling, filling forms, and reading the DOM — while the human keeps the same Chrome window for unrelated work. The extension is available in all regions except the EU and UK at launch.
How does it work?
The extension requests permissions for tab groups, browsing history, downloads, debugger access, and native messaging back to the Codex app. Codex confines its work to its own tabs, asks for confirmation before touching new sites unless the user disables those prompts, and inherits whatever sessions the browser is already signed into — so it can use LinkedIn, Salesforce, Gmail, or internal admin tools without separate API tokens.
